Rare Snow Blankets Beaufort Area

Area residents were treated to a very rare sight beginning around 7:30 this evening. It was snowing, yes, snowing right here on the Sea Islands. By 8 pm, it was beginning to look like a winter wonderland.
The last snow here, that stayed on the ground long enough to be noticed, was 10 years ago in February of 2000. It started snowing lightly for about two hours, leaving a noticeable covering on the ground, at about 2 am. The frosty carpet melted away quickly when the warm sun emerged at dawn.
Weather forecasts indicate that tonight’s snowfall could continue for several hours and leave us with over two inches of the winter whiteness. If temperatures stay in the predicted range, we could see snow angels, snowmen, and snowball fights for much of tomorrow.

Beaufort News reporter, Dan Healy, tries to find the “Snow” setting on his trusty camera.
