Suspect Identified In Town Center Incident

Shortly after 6:00 p.m. on February 3, 2010, Beaufort police officers responded to a report of an armed subject chasing another man in the area of 2127 Boundary Street (Town Center). Early reports to the Beaufort News had incorrectly indicated that shots had been fired, and that two suspects were ivolved.
The first officer, Corporal Ray Heroux, arrived on scene within one minute and a witness pointed the suspect, who was now crossing the parking lot. As he attempted to make contact the suspect fled on foot.
As the chase continued into the former Greenlawn neighborhood, the suspect attempted to jump a fence, and caught his foot as he went over. He recovered momentarily and attempted to flee again, prompting the officer to deploy his taser. Once subdued, Heroux held the subject at gunpoint until another officer arrived.
As the subject was being taken into custody, officers discovered a .380 caliber pistol in his waistband.
The suspect, 22 year old Tovorris Dovon Jenkins of 911 Woodward Avenue, faces multiple charges including Assault of a High and Aggravated Nature, Pointing and Presenting a Forearm, Unlawful Carrying of a Pistol, and Fleeing to Evade Arrest or Detention.
